ABOUT US

Our mission

Our mission at God's Hope for Uganda Families (GHUF) is to provide access to education for students in Kyenjojo, Uganda, who face barriers to pursuing their studies. We believe that every child has the right to learn, grow, and achieve their full potential, regardless of their family circumstances, disabilities, or financial means. By empowering our students with education, we aim to break the cycle of poverty and create a brighter future for our community. We serve children and families in Kyenjojo district, with a focus on those who are most vulnerable and marginalized. Our goal is to provide quality education and resources to our students, so that they can become leaders in their communities and make a positive impact on society.

An Organization 10+ years in the making

Travis befriended Godfrey and Solomon in 2008 at the Misenyi Orphanage School in Kyenjojo District, Uganda. Godfrey & Solomon were working hard to complete their studies despite extreme poverty and challenging family circumstances. Travis was there for a month-long volunteer program and was inspired by Godfrey and Solomon’s indomitable spirit. Travis bonded with Solomon over a shared love of soccer and with Godfrey during a near-death bicycle ride on the way to the village to get medical supplies (brake failure)!

10 years later Travis, Godfrey & Solomon founded God’s Hope for Uganda Families

FROM Initial SETBACKS…

After getting involved with non-profit advocacy and fundraising while attending Asbury University, Travis felt called to work in the non-profit community in Uganda. However, after his initial visit, he realized he didn’t have the language skills, cultural knowledge, or trusted network necessary to to make a real difference.

As the years went by, Godfrey & Solomon graduated from primary school and managed to cobble together enough funds to complete secondary school (grades 8-13) but could not afford to continue their education despite qualifying for university via entrance exams. That’s when God reunited the three of them.

TO Divine Inspiration

Travis reconnected with the boys through social media and began personally funding their university studies. Both of them thrived in the university setting, earning top grades and assuming leadership positions within student government. In 2018, Travis was able to return to Uganda 10 years after his original trip. While he was there, Godfrey & Solomon approached him with the idea to start a nonprofit focused on providing greater access to education within the same community they grew up in. That’s how God’s Hope for Uganda Families (GHUF) began.
